BTW - Sorry new material has been so scarce around here. We've been having some technical difficulties as some pictures and videos have not been able to upload at all. I'm thinking it's a problem with blogger more than the pictures so I'm going to keep trying to get everything up within the week - we're backed up a good 3-4 posts!

Attention Attention!!

Come on ride the train... and ride it!
Well! It's finally happened! The little girl who we all thought had everything, finally really actually does have EVERYTHING.
Miss A got some lovely birthday cards in the mail from loved ones up yonder in PA (Hello Great-Pappap and Great-Grandma and Great-Granddad and Aunt Sue and Uncle Jim and Matt and Dan!!!) and one of them happened to be something that D and A couldn't "force" her to put in a savings account. Tonight Miss A and I took a trip to Wal-mart and while we were picking up some necessities, we also picked out what might be Miss A's favorite thing that she owns EVER...
In case you thought so, train sets are certainly NOT just for boys to play with! (Even though D has definitely had just as good a time playing with it as Miss A) We looked at the dolls and some dress-up stuff but none of it caught her attention quite like some of the train sets so I helped her figure out the most fun starter set of the Thomas the Train variety. We're all excited to help Miss A expand on her new train set for upcoming special occasions and holidays.

Two and one
If you didn't know, yesterday was Miss A's birthday and our girl is now officially two whole years and one day old.
It's so amazing to me because, as cliched as it sounds, it seems like just yesterday she was like this...
And now look at her!! Such a little lady of wonder and energy and spirit that we couldn't even try to contain if we wanted to.
Yesterday we quietly celebrated with some gifts sent from afar by Grammy and Grandpap... (here is video of Miss A opening one of them)...
It's so amazing to me because, as cliched as it sounds, it seems like just yesterday she was like this...

And after the gifts, we had a lovely dinner with Nana and PopPop at our favorite local Chinese buffet with a dessert of Minnie Mouse birthday cake. Funny enough, I couldn't get a picture of the cake to post her because Miss A took it upon herself to dig in before I could even get to it. Oh well! It was HER birthday afterall. She's allowed all the party fouls that she'd like to have.
Today I stayed home with Miss A so we could go to the doctor for her two year check-up and she measured at 20th percentile for her height and weight and 50th for her head. She's also stacking up in the 3 year developmental range for her motor skills, verbal skills, and demonstrated cognitive abilities and even though she cried and was so upset to be at the doctor's she even said (through the tears - of course!), "thank you" and "have a nice day" to the doctor when he was done with the check-up!! It was so sweet and I was so proud of her.
So... now I'm the mama to a two year old little lady. So bittersweet because I keep doing the silly mom thinking that it won't be long until she's off graduating college and getting married and having kids of her own! I know all of that is still plenty far off from now seeing as how Miss A is still working on potty training but it's hard to deny that this two years with her (so far) hasn't flown by pretty quickly already and so much has changed. But one thing that won't change? How much she is loved and adored by all.
She's our little shining beacon of joy and sweetness and we will never ever EVER be able to get enough of her.

License to drive
We're still alive! I promise!!!
Our absence has largely been due to the busyness of the end of the year for both D and myself but also because poor Miss A has recently been under the weather and not entirely herself. What we suspected were her "terrible twos" making a grand entrance turned out to be something that has now become known in our house as "icky belly" - or "icky Beh-wee," as Miss A says it.
Thankfully, Miss A is feeling back to her usual wonderful self and today we celebrated with giving her an early birthday present!!
(OK. So really it was unplanned to give her the present early and it's more that I was probably too excited to wait to give it to her and she never would have known the difference if I had just waited but I maintain that it's in her better interest to give it to her early - despite the fact that this is now the second present I've done this with - because we don't want to overwhelm her with all of the presents that we've found for her to celebrate her 2nd birthday now do we? Right?!!)
*ahem*
Anyway...
D and I have thought long and hard about what we wanted to give her this year for her birthday. Since we aren't doing the typical birthday party this year, we figured we'd scale it up in the area of her presents a little and pick things that were going to be things that we knew she would really love even if they cost a bit more. We went back and forth with lists and links of things we found and it's looking like, so far, we've hit the jackpot with all that we've picked out for her.
This present was one that I was able to figure out after a whole lot of brainstorming and considering of things like the following:
I really researched the idea I finally came up with to find the most fun and involved version of a driving console that I could. We (of course) would have loved to have gotten her a little power wheels version of Grammy and Grandpap's Cooper but it might still be a little too soon for that as she's still working on some on figuring out her fine and gross motor skills just yet.
Anyway, she played with this thing for a LONG time and I would recommend this version to anyone who is looking for a "play" driving console that is as realistic as they come - completely with turn signaling, moving windshield wiper blades, radio that switches tunes, and car alarm that turns off and on and siren sounds...
Pretty nifty, eh? Yeah... D and I have thought so as much as Miss A.
We'll (of course) let you know if we still think so in about a week and we are losing our hearing from the deafening volume of the sirens that it has WITHOUT volume control.
