The $3 dress from Target
When I was growing up, I was a cross between a hand-me-down kid and a kid who seemingly never grew and could wear the same clothes from elementary school far into middle school. I was a pipsqueak and that's putting it mildly. In some cases this was a good thing because that meant that whenever I did get new clothes, they were generally higher quality (so they would last) and also of a style that was more classic than trendy (again, so they would last). Still? I often longed for clothing that was more trendy than classic and more novel than mainstay.
Miss A, being of genetic inheritance of myself and a great-grandmother who almost (but didn't) make it to the five foot mark, is carrying on the legacy of being a pipsqueak. I don't even know what percentile she is in for her age group but last we checked (months and months ago), she was barely in the 5th percentile. Now? She might very well have dropped off of the bottom of the charts. She is well into her 3s and she can still wear 24m/2T clothes reasonably comfortably. She went through a growth spurt just a few weeks ago but even now when I know most of her buddies are already getting into 4T sizes, she's barely climbing into the 3T range - mostly for shirts and upperbody wear.
Last weekend when I was in Target, I breezed through her section of clothing and scored two really cute summer shift dresses in fun patterns for only $3 a piece! I could have gotten the 3T but with Fall making its way into our region and summer months away now, I figured I should go with the 4T instead. Miss A discovered these dresses and insisted upon wearing them now while it was still warm. Her favorite one is pictured below - red with pink "Holka" dots (as she calls them).
The first picture is her trying to show a "Skeeter" bite (mosquito bite, if you will) but with the wind blowing, it actually looks like it fits her reasonably well. The second picture though? Well, that's without the wind blowing and a much better picture of how the dress really fits her. I couldn't even say she is swimming in it. She's just about drowning in a 4T! *sigh* My little pipsqueak.
Anyway, sorry for the very low quality pics these days. My phone is so much more easily accessible for pictures than my big camera and these days (unless I'm doing a shoot) my motto is: the closest camera available is better than no camera at all!

Oh hi
I took this picture of Miss A this morning on the drive in to school/work...
If that doesn't sum up things these days then I just don't know what does.
Every single one of us Ellwoods are SO busy these days. D is wrapping up the bits and pieces of his grad studies, coordinating the student teaching program at his school, and trying to kick off a "save the athletics program" type thing at his school despite the fact that all programs have been cut county-wide. And me? Well, the short of it is that I'm swamped with work of all sorts that include (but are not limited to) trying to be supermom and superwife, teaching, writing as a monthly columnist for a website for professional photography professionals, booking and shooting more freelance photography work than I have ever seen at any one time before, and keeping up with my newly established (and very well received) painting party business. And Miss A? Well, she's rolling with all of the punches and growing like a little weed.
I am hoping that the craziness that has been the beginning of the school year is just that - the beginning of the school year - and so the nonstop goingGoingGOING will sloooooooooooooowww down already. I don't know though. We're so grateful for the blessing of jobs/work more than we have time for at a time when we keep hearing about more and more people being without employment but still, it's definitely been far from easy trying to do all of the things we have felt called to do.
This weekend was supposed to be Homecoming weekend for my school but as it's happening, a number of really huge noteworthy events are having to be shelved (the game and the dance) so that cuts me/us a little break. (We were going to the game and then D and I were possibly going to chaperone the dance.) With a little more of an open schedule, perhaps we can do something fun like take Miss A to her first movie theater experience and see the Lion King? Not sure. Staying up and hunting down the grape tomatoes that have somehow started growing in our butterfly garden (without us realizing they were there) could be a whole heck of a lot more fun. We shall see! Whatever the case, take this as a commitment that I will try to be more present on this blog WITH pictures of whatever we get ourselves into. Let's just hope this isn't easier said than done.

Things we did this weekend
This was our first weekend at home in a while. I had a double header senior portrait consult yesterday but other than that we all took it easy. Last evening we had slurpees for dinner and today we did our best to bleed black and gold. This week will be our first full week of school because of all of the crazy weather.

BEST. FLOWERGIRL. EVER!!!
I wanted to post an update about Miss A's flowergirl debut earlier this week but I couldn't because I didn't have any pictures to show as well.
I know. No pictures? I'm a professional photographer! NO PICTURES?!!
*sigh*
In my defense, I didn't bring my camera with me on purpose - 1) because I really wanted to focus on being there to enjoy the event and support my sweet little flowergirl and 2) I've been doing A LOT of photography work (seriously? business is booming and that's an understatement) and I needed a break from being the photographer.
Never fear! My dad took some completely wonderful pics of Miss A in all of her flowergirl glory. Here she is walking down the aisle and taking her job very VERY seriously...
Yeah. She's my little dancing machine. What you don't see a picture of is how much of a fit she was pitching because she did NOT want to share the dance floor with anyone else.
And here's a bonus picture...
Can you figure out what that is? Well, it's officially in her "baby book" as the image that documents "baby's first roller coaster." YEAH.
A friend of us very generously gifted us with a trio of tickets to Hershey Park and because we were in the area for the wedding and they were about to expire, we spent a day there and had THE BEST TIME EVER!!! We actually were there until the horrible rains that have been happening started and closed the park down just before 10PM last Saturday night but before that point? We managed to sneak in a trip to Chocolate World, the water park, and just about every ride that Miss A was tall enough to ride INCLUDING the Coal Cracker (basically the water coaster/log flume) and the Trail blazer roller coaster that doesn't have big loops or upside down action but has a serious corkscrew and plenty of speed and herking and jerking to make it feel plenty like a roller coaster. Our little thrill seeker could not get enough of either of the coasters and insisted on riding both back to back until the park was forced closed by the rain. One of my favorite memories of her three's will forever be helping her to climb into the roller coaster car WITH her security blanket in hand, help her lift the safety bar down to secure her and then watching both of her arms shoot straight up into the air before the coaster even started to move because she was that ready to go! What a girl! WHAT A GIRL!
We had such a good time that we have decided that our goal is to take a trip back there every year and start a new family tradition. Can't wait for next year's trip! Hopefully she'll be at least as tall as the Hershey's kiss or Reese's cup cut offs so she will be able to go on the bigger coasters.
